Starcraft Error
« on: July 28, 2010, 08:38:56 am »

Well I submitted a support request to Blizzard about this but you guys might be able to help (and will probably get back to me quicker).

As I was short on space I decided to save the Starcraft 2 Download Manager to my external hard-drive and then started to download the files to the same spot. Problem was I didn't think to check the disk format beforehand and it couldn't complete the download because the maximum file size is 4GB...
So I removed the hard-drive and downloaded the Download Manager again, this time to my internal hard-drive. When I started the download manager this time, it refused to work as it was attempting to put the files in H:\ (the external drive now no longer attached) so it gave me an error telling me I may not be allowed to write there. (see screen-shot)
My guess would be that there is a config file somewhere telling it to download to that directory, sadly I can not find this file...halp pl0x.

Here's the download manager, it's only 3MB, then tell me where the config file is! (Blizzard support still not replied in 2 days, think I broke them too).

Update:

Problem has now been solved my personal tech support team (mates from uni).
Went into Registry Editor and found the Path file in there, modified it to now be a valid path so I am currently at 14% of the download :D

Hey guys,

Just read this about SC2.

There is some issue with refresh limits being unlimited, so when there isnt much for the graphics card to render, it just tries to render things like menus as fast as it can, cycling to the point it can burn out your graphics card.

fix (apparently) is:

 Look for the variables.txt file that’s found in the Documents\Starcraft II folder and make the following additions:

frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60

its from http://www.zdnet.com/blog/computers/is-starcraft-ii-bad-for-your-graphics-card/3454

The above should prevent the issue until a patch is made.

Yeah my mate linked me this too, the file they talk about didn't actually exist. I think you have to play the game first because the text file doesn't appear until then. Didn't have any problems pre-fix but have put it in anyway, don't need to be getting a new laptop for the second time in a year.
