Yeah, little forum 'reset' there. Restored to a backup from 11-25. Apologies all. Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving, turkey day, or just another random day depending on where you're at.

If you were wondering what's up, here's the status update I left.. http://prclan.net/downtime.html

I have to admit it was kind of funny. If it was my online banking, I'd be upset, but with you I kind of guess it's all gonna be fine so anything like this seem hilarious :D

Way I figure, it was a bit of karma coming around to bump me down a notch. I was all sorts of proud of how i changed OSes so quick the other night, so I got to do it again.. Twice in fact. Oy...

Wise.. Is that what we're calling this? I'm about to join the ranks of you old farts this January, guess that's why I'm forgetting everything. :)

Good news update to this issue - no more day old backups (knock on wood). Got backup jobs running every 4 hrs.

The last 40 hours of databases are kept. The last 10 days of databases are kept separately, and besides that the last 10 weekly databases are kept. Probably overkill on the 10 week bit, but hey.. Compressed database dump is only ~40M and the backup app only stores 1 whole DB (in each of the three categories) and then all the changes every week, day or 4h period. Also file structure is stored in those three groups as well. This reduces the chances of something getting broke, then the broken data being written over the backup.

Well, I was setting it all up and the script only saved the last database dump. It's only an extra line or two to rotate that into a 2nd slot and keep two. Then another line to rotate the 2nd into a 3rd slot. "Well, lemme copy & paste this again.. Wouldn't hurt to have another... Copy, paste.. paste, paste paste paste... " It was just too easy to be paranoid. ;)

Anyway, I've got a lot of paranoid friends. I'm usually too lazy to match them, but since I was already doing the work to setup offsite backups..
